When thinking of your study area, your aim is to create as comfortable a space as possible without making it so cosy that all you do is sleep instead of study. In addition to a classroom chair, you will need a proper desk, waste receptacles for all those notes you will be throwing away and some mobile storage cabinets for the papers you need to keep. No matter where you decide to study be it in your dorm room, a classroom or the library you need to ensure that the student chair you are using are suitable for the job. It is difficult enough to keep up with the course work without having to take time out due to headaches and other aches and pains caused by poor posture and worse study conditions. Generally speaking library furniture will be suitable for studying at but not everyone can work effectively in a library. I know I can’t as I find too many distractions.
Folding tables and chairs are sometimes used by students in their dorm rooms as space can be an issue. This type of equipment works for short study bursts but don’t put in an all nighter sitting on a fold up student chair. You can often buy second hand school desks and chairs if money is tight and you are trying to get your essentials on a budget.
Some companies specialize in producing student chairs. One very popular brand is the virco student desks and chair range. These come in a variety of styles and colors. one of the benefits of buying a desk and chair from the same supplier is that they tend to work very well together. If you buy a classroom chair from one supplier and match it with a desk from another, they may look like they go together but after some time sitting at them you will notice how uncomfortable it is. This can be caused by the desk being slightly too high for the chair or there not being sufficient leg room or a number of other issues.
If you plan on using a computer for a lot of your course work, you should buy one of the many computer furniture desks on offer. These desks are designed so that you sit properly at the correct angles to your monitor and keyboard. This will reduce the pressure on your wrists when typing hopefully avoiding painful carpel tunnel syndrome. Looking at a computer monitor while it is sat at the wrong angle is the quickest way to developing eye strain, something best avoided when you have hours of study to put in.
