Top tips for choosing the best student chairs

Classroom Chairs

Classroom chairs have really developed in the last number of years. Gone forever are the wooden desks that our parents used to have to struggle into when they were at school. Now you have a variety of choices with plastic, fabric or metal often being used.

Most schools will have classroom computer desks for their students as they need to make sure that the monitor and keyboard are correctly positioned on the desk to avoid putting a strain on the students eyes or wrists. Some schools will have additional classroom folding tables and chairs to accommodate extra students when a class suddenly becomes very popular.

As most kids spend a lot of time in school it is important that the student chairs are comfortable or there will be a lot of disruption in the classroom with students fidgeting due to discomfort. This doesn’t mean that schools have to bankrupt their budgets by buying the most expensive classroom student desks and chairs they can find. It just means that people need to be sensible and only buy the furniture appropriate to the age of the student and the type of work taking place in that room.

For example preschool classroom furniture is going to look very different to the classroom chairs used by older students. Toddlers will have a number of carpets and mats in their room as you can’t expect little ones to sit at desks for ages. You would expect to find a lot of toys and playthings in a toddler classroom design.

You can find ideas for the different styles of furnishings on offer by looking at virco classroom furniture brochures. Some teachers will prefer to divide their class into smaller groups sitting at tables rather than having each student sit at an individual desk. Other teachers will prefer the individual desk approach as there tends to few discipline problems and less disruption to the class. It really depends on the teaching style and I suppose the subjects being taught not to mention the age range of the class. You could hardly expect a class of teenagers to sit around on toddler furniture chairs any more than the younger kids would sit at proper student desks.

Although most schools are experiencing budget issues at the moment, it is a false economy to buy a cheap student chair. Given the amount of wear and tear school furniture goes through in the average semester you could find that those cheap chairs you bought don’t turn out to the bargain you expected as they need to be replaced or repaired.

If buying in bulk, you should be able to negotiate decent discounts with the various suppliers of student chairs. It is a very good idea to buy desks and matching chairs at the same time as then you know that your equipment is at the right heights and angles to prevent damage to the children’s backs and posture. Trying to mix and match from different furniture ranges can cause no end of problems, it is easier to buy the right classroom chairs in the first instance.
